John 17: Jesus Prays for Us
Aim: Hear Jesus’s pleas to the Father for himself, for the disciples, and for all believers to live in unity and on mission.
- That the Father would glorify Jesus in the completion of the divine mission (vv 1–5).
- That the disciples would be protected, sanctified, and on mission after Jesus leaves the world (vv6–19).
- That the church would be united, be on mission, and display the love of the Father (vv20–26).

Paul prays for his beloved church that they would be:
- Strengthened with power in their inner being by the Holy Spirit
- So that Christ would dwell in their hearts through faith (even though they were already believers!)
- So that they would be rooted and grounded in the love of Christ, and be overwhelmed by the depth, length, breadth, and height of that love
- And so be filled even more with all the fulness of God.

He Hears Me: David's Confession (Psalm 51) Lindsay Osborne
Thursday Jul 15, 2021
Thursday Jul 15, 2021
Psalm 51 will help you understand more of the heart of your Heavenly Father. May you see more clearly...
- God’s steadfast love and abundant mercy toward his confessing children
- God’s pursuit of justice and heart change in his children
- God’s provision of a covering for sin in Jesus
- God’s gift of joy for the forgiven
- God’s help to follow through on the resolves of the forgiven heart
Remember that God has revealed himself as, The LORD, the LORD, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness, keeping steadfast love for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin (Exodus 34:6–7).
May you run to Him quickly when you recognize your sin!

He Hears Me: The Song of Deborah & Barak (Judges 5) Amy Katterson
Friday Jul 02, 2021
Friday Jul 02, 2021
Judges 4–5 gives us a surprising, hopeful, powerful picture of deliverance from bondage that we could never escape alone.
If you are less familiar with the history of God’s redemptive story, find a refresher of the overarching picture with this 3-minute video or the full KINGDOM seminar video. This week’s story occurs in the period of the judges, when Israel has entered the Promised Land but failed to fully obey God by removing the idolatrous people of the land. Where does this partial obedience (i.e. disobedience) land them? Under the oppression of the Canaanites.
But God does not save us because we are good enough! And so this story goes on to describe the faith of two women (the judge Deborah and a surprising “deliverer” Jael), the hesitation of God’s appointed military leader (Barak), the different responses of the Israelite tribes, and the foreshadowing of a nail that crushes the head of the enemy … pointing forward to our true, perfect Deliverer, Christ Jesus.
Because we have such a Hero, we can walk in courageous faith and express our hearts in praise for the large and small deliverances that God accomplishes for us.

Prayers of Hannah and Mary (1 Samuel 2 and Luke 1), Kacie Liechty, June 16, 2021
Wednesday Jun 16, 2021
Wednesday Jun 16, 2021
By God’s grace, the prayers of Hannah and Mary are recorded for us in the Bible. These are women who loved God and were familiar with disappointment and uncertainty.
As you reflect on the prayers of Hannah and Mary, consider the following:
- When you are suffering or struggling, God hears you and invites you to pour out your soul before him (2 Samuel 1:15, Psalm 62:8). Rest in the truth that He understands every cry of your heart. He is working powerfully, even in your loneliest moments.
- Remember that God can (and has!) reversed the most impossible situations. He can make something beautiful from ashes (Isaiah 61:3), grant the kingdom to those who are persecuted (Matthew 5:10), bring down the mighty and exalt the humble (Luke 1:52) and grant the weakest people strength (1 Samuel 2:4, 2 Corinthians 12:9)
- God can write words of worship and praise in our own hearts, even in difficult circumstances—especially in difficult circumstances.
